Job Summary

Mulhall Construction Inc. is seeking an Entry-Level Project Engineer to join our team on a year-long seismic retrofit project spanning multiple commercial buildings in San Jose. This role demands a quick-thinking, adaptable individual ready to travel to the site four days a week, with one day at our Novato office (flexible as needed). You’ll dive into problem-solving, record project data, and communicate with workers (many Spanish-speaking), stakeholders, and leadership. Reporting to the Project Engineer and owner Adrian Mulhall, you’ll have significant autonomy to manage challenges on the fly—perfect for a self-starter eager to grow in structural construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Site Oversight : Spend four days a week at the San Jose site, addressing real-time issues on a seismic retrofit of commercial buildings, ensuring work stays on track.
• Data Management : Record project progress—daily logs, material usage, and labor details—in Excel, delivering a weekly site report to leadership.
• Drawing Analysis : Interpret structural drawings to guide on-site decisions and coordinate with engineers and crews.
• Software Use : Utilize Bluebeam, Revit, or AutoCAD to review plans, mark up drawings, and share updates.
• Problem Solving : Tackle unfamiliar challenges independently, collaborating with site workers and stakeholders to find solutions without constant guidance.
• Communication : Relay updates to the Project Engineer, Adrian Mulhall, and stakeholders as needed; communicate effectively with construction crews, many of whom speak Spanish.
• Office Duties : Visit the Novato office weekly (or as adjusted) for planning, meetings, and reporting.
• Adaptability : Transition to new projects as they arise, applying your skills to diverse structural challenges.

Qualifications

• Education : Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field required (e.g., Construction Management, Civil Engineering); preference for engineering majors.
• Experience : Entry-level role; prior internships or 1-2 years in construction/project coordination preferred but not required.
• Skills :
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data tracking and reporting.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam, Revit, or AutoCAD (training available if needed).
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think on your feet.
• Basic Spanish communication skills to interact with on-site workers. (Not Required)
• Travel : Commit to four days a week at the San Jose site, with one day at the Novato office; reliable transportation required (mileage reimbursement offered).
• Certifications : Not required, but OSHA 10/30 or similar certifications are a plus.
• Attributes : Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable with autonomy in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation

• Salary : Starting at $25/hour
