COVID-19 Risk Tier – High Risk Pursuant to California Senate Bill 960, effective January 1, 2023, it is no longer required for peace officers to either be a citizen of the United States or be a permanent resident who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship; instead, peace officers must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Responsibilities: Interviews adult or juvenile offenders, their families, and interested parties to determine the nature of their difficulties; Conducts investigations and reports on findings; Makes necessary arrests to protect the community; Recommends to the Court plans for the adjustment of offenders and interprets the plan to the probationer, his/her family, and interested parties; Conducts field visits to monitor compliance with court orders and probation conditions; Conducts random searches according to the conditions of probation; Collects urine specimens for chemical analysis; Maintains contact with the probationer to assist him/her in making a satisfactory social adjustment; Appears in court while cases are under consideration and makes recommendations as to the case's disposition; Cooperates with staff from other agencies on cases of mutual interest; Confers with supervisors and other staff members on general casework techniques and specific case situations; Prepares and maintains case records and reports; Performs related duties as required. Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferably with specialization in Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, Penology, or a closely related field. Special Requirements: Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship. (Govt. Code 1031-1031.5) Applicant must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Applicants with a felony conviction and/or a conviction outside of California that would be considered a felony in this state will be disqualified. Must complete the DPO Core Training Course. Knowledge of: Theory and concepts of probation work; Basic principles of applied psychology; Casework concepts and interviewing techniques.
