Surgery Center of Allentown is looking for a FT Surgery Scheduler. Monday thru Friday . No Weekends or Holidays

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Business Office Manager, is responsible for scheduling all surgeries and procedures at the facility and the coordination of an effective, efficient, admission process. Enters all reservations and patient demographic & insurance data into the patient information system, alerts the appropriate persons as to any special equipment or physical needs for each patient, and creates the chart for each patient encounter. Provides insurance information to the Verification Specialists. Coordinates individual surgeon schedules with the surgeon offices of assignment. Utilizes the computer in most aspects of the position. Position Qualifications

  • Schedules all procedures to be performed in center (e.g., surgery, GI procedures, pain procedures, preoperative appointments)
  • Follows scheduling form to obtain all necessary patient demographic, health, and insurance information from physician’s office
  • Maintains copy of medical staff member’s Delineation of Privileges to determine appropriateness of scheduled procedures; notifies clinical director if questions arise
  • Maintains information regarding dates of license, DEA certification, and malpractice insurance renewal on all medical staff members; notifies clinical director if lapse occurs
  • Considers priorities and patient/equipment special needs when scheduling preoperative appointments and surgical procedures
  • Schedules appointments and procedures according to nursing and anesthesia staff availability, patient needs, and physician’s block time
  • Coordinates surgical and preoperative appointment schedules with clinical director and preoperative nursing staff
  • Regulates schedule according to procedure and physician’s time and staffing requirements
  • Coordinates schedule with time and equipment availability; identifies conflicts and adjusts schedule as needed
  • Prepares preoperative-appointments schedule and surgery schedule for review by the clinical director so that adjustments may be made as necessary
  • Accurately prepares final preoperative and surgery schedule for timely distribution
  • Distributes schedules to appropriate areas so that required staff and supplies are available
  • Follows procedure for notification of changes in the schedule (e.g., cancellation, rescheduling)
  • For new patients, assigns medical record number and enters all demographic and insurance information into computer
  • For repeat patients, makes any necessary changes in demographic or insurance information in computer
  • Performs other miscellaneous office/clerical duties as needed
  • Answers telephone as needed

Position Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required
  • Surgery scheduling experience preferred
  • ASC experience preferred
