Job Description

A skilled Sign Language Interpreter is needed to support K-12 students in a school setting. This contract position, based in Irmo, SC, requires excellent proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) to facilitate clear communication and create an inclusive learning environment for students with hearing impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language and vice versa during classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings
• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and staff
• Assist in promoting an accessible and inclusive educational experience for hearing-impaired students
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to adapt materials and methods as needed
• Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times

Qualifications and Experience:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills
• Experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings preferred
• Familiarity with educational terminology and classroom dynamics
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced school environment
