The Position This role offers an opportunity to pioneer Novo Nordisk’s strategy for small molecule early safety assessment. The Principal Scientist will have deep expertise in exploratory/mechanistic toxicology for small molecules and will work in the company’s expanding small molecule pipeline. Responsibilities include developing and refining in vitro and in vivo methods, supporting lead candidate selection through screening, and serving as a nonclinical development expert to shape safety strategies. The candidate will advise on non-clinical safety evaluations, communicate findings across the pipeline, and collaborate externally with academia and industry partners. The role reports to the head of the Boston toxicology department and involves working closely with project teams and stakeholders globally. Essential Functions Lead small molecule exploratory toxicology strategy implementation Design and manage safety pharmacology studies Analyze data to inform safety assessments Provide expert advice and mentorship on safety matters Innovate safety evaluation methods and stay updated on industry trends Qualifications Master’s degree with 12+ years or PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience Experience in small molecule toxicology and in vitro/in vivo methods Strong communication skills for cross-functional team collaboration Understanding of regulatory toxicology and guidelines is advantageous Proven problem-solving and mentorship abilities The compensation range is $148,290 to $259,510, with additional benefits and performance bonuses.
