The Academy for Integrated Arts (AFIA) is an innovative, arts integrated PK-6th grade school. Our school community is reflective, dedicated and caring. We are seeking applicants for a full-time position. This position would include teaching physical education for about 30% of the time.

This position will also include the following duties (about 70%):

  • Serve as a substitute for teachers and other staff members
  • Provide behavior support for students who need extra layers of support, this would include reactive behavior support throughout the day
  • Provide support as needed throughout the school, including providing support for recess, lunch, etc.

This teacher will teach a movement or physical education class. As an arts integrated school, we are seeking a PE and/or movement teacher who can help support teachers in integrating movement throughout the curriculum, while supporting students classroom learning through physical education. Additionally, we are seeking an individual who can coordinate current partnerships and continue to grow new partnerships and facilitate extra curricular programming for students (sports teams, etc).

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Plan and deliver differentiated PE/movement instruction in whole classroom settings, as well as in small groups, based on continual student assessment and specific students needs
  • Collaborate with the AFIA teachers and staff as well as community partners to integrate movement across the curriculum
  • Participate in continual, intensive job-embedded professional development
  • Collaborate in the professional learning environment of the school, with students, families and the community
  • Engage in powerful, productive partnerships with families and students to ensure that instruction meets the needs of all students

Teachers of AFIA will:

Qualifications

  • excellent communications, oral and written skills
  • comfortable working around children, professional staff and teachers
  • able to collaborate with the other arts-based positions at the school
  • ability to collaborate with and maintain existing partnerships, while also building new partnerships

Preferred Qualifications

  • has current Missouri certification or is eligible for MO certification (PE or other related area)
  • Bachelor's degree
