Job Description

Occupational Therapists are responsible for providing patients with treatment to help them develop and improve their ability to complete everyday tasks related to their job and daily life. They perform patient evaluations and re-evaluations, establish patient treatment plans based on the referral from the physician/referral source (if required), and document the patients’ care and direct supportive staff regarding treatment process. This may involve outpatients, inpatients, pediatrics and off-site locations. Essential Job Functions include reviewing physician referral, patient’s condition and medical history to determine occupational therapy treatment needs; performing and documenting patient evaluation, re-evaluation and developing treatment and discharge plans per department policies and procedures/protocols; planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy treatments to patients; designing and constructing special equipment for adaptation of individual’s work and living environment; planning programs involving activities, practice in functional, pre-vocational, vocational, homemaking skills, activities of daily living and sensory motor activities; reviewing progress and modifying treatment goals and plan of care as appropriate; instructing patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home; managing patient cases including communication and coordination of care with treatment team; precepting and orienting clinical experience/internship students; maintaining productivity and delivering efficient and effective care; attending meetings and providing in-services to maintain competency and ongoing education. Licensing requires Licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of current practice or meeting qualifications for traineeship or temporary license, and BLS Basic Life Support. Preferred 2 years of experience in equivalent setting. The role involves working with diverse patient populations from neonates to geriatrics, and may include exposure to high stress, travel, physical demands, and various hazards. Skills required include analytical abilities, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, organizational and communication skills, ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
