Music Librarian: Year-Round

Interlochen Center for the Arts seeks a full-time Music Librarian to join the team at the Fennell Music Library.

Job Summary:

The Fennell Music Library serves the music program of two world-renowned entities, Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy, and houses extensive collections including orchestral, band, choral, chamber music, jazz, scores, and recordings. This position ensures that students, faculty, and staff can access necessary materials for their curriculum in a timely and efficient manner. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Build meaningful relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
• Assist patrons in locating and accessing information.
• Maintain and develop a collection that reflects and anticipates patrons’ needs.
• Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere in the library.

Collaboration:

This position works closely with the Director of Libraries, the Head of the Fennell Music Library, and other library staff members to provide exemplary services to the ICA community.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Take the lead role in knowledge and implementation of cataloging standards
• Oversee all aspects of cataloging including original and copy, classification in specialized formats, and authority control
• Collaborate with other library staff on the selection of materials
• Coordinate score-binding and processing of library materials
• Manage billing
• Assist in management of Koha ILS and EBSCO Discovery Service
• Compile circulation and collection reports
• Oversee Music Library outreach and marketing
• Work with library staff on special projects dealing with outreach, programming, and other library initiatives
• Provide a high level of reference to students, faculty, and staff
• Circulate scores, sound recordings, and other Music Library items
• Assist patrons with technology issues
• Assist in the training and supervision of community service students and summer interns
• Assist with preparation of ensemble materials as needed
• Participate in school-wide committee work as appropriate
• Perform other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily in a standard office and library environment with extensive internal and external stakeholder contact.

Education:

• ALA-accredited MLIS required
• Bachelor’s degree in music required; master’s degree in music preferred

Experience: 

• Two to three years of experience
• High comfort level with integrated library systems and library databases
• Working knowledge of RDA, AACR2, OCLC Connexion, and MARC
• Understanding of current and emerging trends and practices in libraries
• Experience working with binding materials a plus

Equipment Familiarity:

• Google Drive Suite
• Integrated library system software
• Mac OS

Certifications, Licenses or Special Training: 

• Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks. 
• Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
