About the Role

Van Avery Prep is seeking a creative and dependable Art Substitute Teacher to provide classroom instruction and support in the absence of the regular Art teacher. The substitute will deliver engaging lessons, maintain a positive learning environment, and support students in developing their creativity, technical skills, and appreciation for the visual arts.

Responsibilities Include:

• Deliver pre-planned art lessons (K-8) that align with Van Avery Prep’s curriculum and standards.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student creativity.
• Provide clear instructions and demonstrations for a variety of media (drawing, painting, collage, etc.).
• Manage classroom behavior effectively and uphold school policies.
• Supervise students during classroom activities and transitions.
• Leave clear notes and feedback for the regular teacher regarding class progress and any issues.
• Adapt quickly to different grade levels and class needs.

What We Are Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education (preferred in Art, Fine Arts, Art Education, or related field).
• Prior experience in a classroom setting, particularly with elementary and middle school students, is highly desirable.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills and punctuality.
• Flexibility and adaptability in managing diverse classroom situations.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
• Ability to maintain discipline and a structured learning environment.
• Cooperative and team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
