In doing so, we can ensure a cleaner, healthier and more equitable community for generations to come. 2025 Program Information Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration. Duquesne Light's internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines. Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August). Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH's Hybrid Work Model (described below). Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies. Candidates must be in good academic standing. Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description. Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities. Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills. Job Description: As a Graphic Designer Intern, you will collaborate with our internal learning teams to create engaging and informative visual assets. Your role will involve designing materials that support our culture-building initiatives and learning programs. Key Responsibilities: Create engaging graphics for learning and development programs, such as training materials, presentations, and educational resources. Assist in developing visual elements that promote company culture and employee engagement. Collaborate with team members to brainstorm and implement creative ideas that align with our internal goals. Revise and refine designs based on feedback from internal stakeholders. Manage multiple design projects while meeting deadlines effectively. Requirements: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field. Candidates must have completed their sophomore year of studies. Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Strong portfolio showcasing design skills and creativity (include a link or samples). Excellent attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and a proactive attitude towards learning and receiving feedback. Basic understanding of design principles, typography, and color theory. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with design tools and principles relevant to internal communications and learning materials. Previous internship or freelance experience in graphic design. Skills/Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment. Physical Requirements: Work will be conducted in a hybrid environment with some time working remotely, and some time required to be in-office/on-site. Candidates must be within close proximity to Pittsburgh. Other: Applicants must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and social media screen. Hybrid Work: All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
