Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay: $22.00/hour
Schedule Options :
Schedule #1: Tuesday–Saturday

  • Tuesday: 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday–Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Schedule #2: Sunday–Thursday

  • Monday: 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

  • Sunday, Tuesday–Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.


Job Summary:
 
The Housing Navigator supports individuals within the Mercy House shelter system by conducting ongoing needs assessments, developing housing plans, making referrals, and advocating for clients to achieve long-term housing stability. This position includes creating individualized service plans, coordinating with external partners, and applying trauma-informed care and harm reduction strategies. Responsibilities also include managing a caseload, maintaining accurate documentation, providing crisis intervention, and delivering housing-related support services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Client Services

  • Manage a caseload of 22–30 clients, meeting with them as needed or assigned

  • Complete navigation assessments within 7 days of shelter entry and enter data into CES for prioritization

  • Assist clients in obtaining vital documents (e.g., ID, birth certificate, proof of income, Social Security benefits)

  • Provide referrals, crisis intervention, and support for securing permanent housing

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop Individual Service Plans with measurable goals

  • Guide clients through all service phases: assessment, planning, engagement, and implementation

  • Connect clients to employment assistance, public benefits, healthcare, and other community resources

  • Apply trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing techniques

  • Support clients in developing coping skills and building self-sufficiency

  • Deliver strengths-based case management focused on sustainable housing outcomes

  • Conduct crisis and risk assessments with supervisor and team input

  • Facilitate warm handoffs to housing providers for continuity of care

  • Collaborate with landlords, housing authorities, case managers, and outreach partners

  • Attend voucher briefings, case matching meetings, and support CES participation

  • Assist with housing searches, applications, reasonable accommodations, and move-in logistics

  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in HMIS and other approved systems

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to support the Mercy House mission and values

  • Participate in staff meetings and help plan shelter programming and resident activities

  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, demonstrating adaptability, empathy, and professionalism

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation including case notes, assessments, and housing plans

  • Support data collection and comply with internal and external reporting requirements

  • Develop familiarity with mental health and substance use treatment models

  • Use agency-approved software tools and respond to communications promptly

  • Manage time and tasks independently while remaining responsive to team needs

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of confidentiality laws and ethical standards related to case management

  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills

  • Familiarity with housing systems, benefits enrollment, and the coordinated entry process

  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain professional boundaries with diverse populations

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field preferred

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or mental health challenges

  • Candidates without a degree but with at least 2 years of direct experience working with long-term homeless, low-income, or diverse populations are encouraged to apply

  • Understanding of mental health and recovery support systems is essential

  • High tolerance and compassion for individuals with urgent and complex needs
