Job Description

Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Wheel Loader Operator position is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of scrap items on to and off of customers, as well as Metalico’s, property. This position requires a high level of customer service, the ability to load and unload large and small trailers, locating and relocating stockpiles as needed, and performing other various activities associated with working at a scrap recycling facility. The operator is responsible for the daily service of their equipment, knowing and performing within the equipment’s limitations, and operating in a safe manner at all times. This position’s main function will be in the unloading and transporting of scrap vehicles in the yard but will be required to perform other duties as directed by management. Performs other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities:

• Ensures a safe work environment for self and others at all times.
• Conducts daily service check of equipment, and utilizes the work order process if maintenance is required.
• Operates equipment when unloading customers or loading prep rack in a safe manner, and as they were instructed by their manager.
• Keeps management aware of any incidents, accidents, and discrepancies with material.
• Keeps car prep staging and work area well organized and safe.
• Looks out for non-conforming material in customer’s vehicles.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
• Informing/communicating with the Yard personnel.
• Ensure that Quality, Environmental, and Safety Standards of Metalico, Inc. for production, customers, and employees are consistently achieved.
• Performs other tasks as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:

• Experience using a front-end loader, with forks.
• Prior experience with hand tools, preferred, but not required.
• Ability to work inside or outside as required.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
• Punctual and reliable; good attendance required.
• Good communication skills.
• Team-player.
• Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills; must be willing to cross-train on other equipment.
• Ability to adhere to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules that are set forth; promotes the Company’s safety standards; works with a sense of honesty and trustworthiness.

• Outside work in the Yard is where temperature and weather extremes (heat, cold, rain) may be encountered.
• Work will take place in an industrial environment, with noise, dust, and fumes.
• The noise level in the work environment can be moderate at times.
