Job Description

Head of Marketing Strategy and Operations

Join the Future of Commerce with Whatnot!

Whatnot is the largest livestream shopping platform in North America and Europe, enabling users to buy, sell, and discover their favorite items. We are redefining e-commerce by blending community, shopping, and entertainment into a unique experience. As a remote co-located team with hubs in the US, UK, Ireland, Poland, and Germany, we are building the future of online marketplaces—together.

Our offerings range from fashion, beauty, and electronics to collectibles like trading cards, comic books, and live plants. Our live auctions cater to diverse interests and audiences.

As one of the fastest-growing marketplaces, we seek bold, forward-thinking problem solvers across all functions. Check out the latest Whatnot updates on our news and engineering blogs and join us in turning passion into business and bringing people together through commerce.

The Marketing team at Whatnot is responsible for storytelling, creating experiences, and driving demand to connect buyers and sellers with the products and people they love.

As Head of Marketing Strategy & Operations, you will set the operating rhythm that enables the Marketing team to achieve their goals. Your responsibilities include planning, goal-setting, supporting strategic initiatives, and experimentation. You will scope and launch new initiatives and functions, partnering closely with Marketing leads, including Influencer and Category Marketing, and other cross-functional teams.

  • Manage cross-functional relationships with Data and Finance teams, including planning, goal-setting, and reporting
  • Own the definition and allocation of the Marketing budget in collaboration with Finance
  • Develop and refine the operating rhythm between Marketing and Category teams to ensure effective communication and efficiency
  • Drive standardization and automation of core marketing processes and reporting (e.g., weekly metrics, email automation)
  • Establish and scale new and existing functions aligned with strategy and growth plans
  • Collaborate with Marketing leadership to launch and test new teams, functions, and processes
  • Identify pain points within the Marketing operations and proactively suggest improvements
  • Deeply analyze opportunities and issues to understand and scale marketing capabilities

Team members in this role should be within commuting distance of our hubs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or New York.

At Whatnot, we value a growth mindset and high-impact drive, which we believe are key to success here.

As our first Head of Marketing Strategy and Operations, you should have 7+ years of experience in strategy and operations roles (e.g., consulting, finance, GM, operations), and:

  • Be a fast learner and self-starter, thriving in ambiguity and excited to build a new team
  • Have a passion for our mission—living and breathing the needs of our communities and relentlessly improving their experience on Whatnot
  • Be adaptable and flexible in an ambiguous environment, especially when building from the ground up (0 to 1)
  • Have experience in fast-paced organizations, working quickly, iteratively, and cross-functionally
  • Have worked with functional leaders at all levels and can take direction from executive leadership
  • Have prior experience working with Marketing or Growth teams
  • Possess strong business acumen, analytical skills, and comfort manipulating data to drive actions, including proficiency with SQL and dashboarding tools

The salary range is $190,000 to $245,000 per year, plus benefits and equity. Final salary depends on experience, skills, and level.

Benefits

  • Health insurance options including Medical, Dental, and Vision
  • Work-from-home support, including a home office setup allowance and monthly allowances for cellphone and internet
  • Retirement plans: 401(k) with employer match up to 4% in the US, and pension plans internationally
  • Parental leave: 16 weeks of paid parental leave plus a one-month gradual return to work (company leave allowances run concurrently with country-specific requirements)

Whatnot is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diversity and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, parental status, disability, or any other protected status. We believe that a diverse workforce enhances our work and culture.
