Fingerprint Technician I – Pima County Sheriff’s Department Job Classification: 5822 – Fingerprint Technician I Salary Grade: 5 Pay Range: $19.83 – $26.78 per hour Hiring Range: $19.83 – $23.30 per hour (estimate) Job Type: Classified Essential Functions Processes and submits fingerprint cards to the Arizona Automated Biometric Identification System (AZABIS) and other relevant databases. Analyzes and compares 10‑print fingerprints using AZABIS search results to establish the identity of subjects. Performs manual comparisons of 10‑print fingerprints and prints on pawn slips, financial documents, and other evidence. Researches, submits, reviews, and edits demographic and arrest records in local, state, and federal databases, updating or establishing subjects' criminal histories. Conducts quality control on fingerprints within AZABIS and manually to ensure accuracy. Provides alias (AKA) information and potential outstanding warrant details to criminal justice agencies when false identities are discovered. Clears arrests within state‑mandated timeframes, corrects errors, rates print quality, and performs manual quality control. Produces and distributes disposition reports to courts or agencies within state‑mandated timeframes. Processes applicant cards through AZABIS and the FBI database, providing results to background investigators. Writes and submits reports outlining fingerprint comparison results and analysis. Provides expert testimony in court regarding fingerprint comparison results and analysis processes. Captures and records fingerprints, palm prints, and photographs of subjects using electronic live scan systems and ink for investigations and mandated purposes. Registers sex offenders, including fingerprinting, photographing, and collecting DNA samples, and maintains demographic and criminal history data in departmental systems. Provides fingerprint and sex offender information to local, state, and federal agencies and other law enforcement entities. Operates, maintains, and provides training on the use of fingerprinting and live scan equipment, ensuring the security and confidentiality of data. Minimum Qualifications Completion of training or coursework in fingerprint classification from an accredited community college or an International Association of Identification (IAI)‑recognized training program. Proof of completion must be provided at the time of application. Or one year of work experience fingerprinting subjects using ink and/or electronic Livescan system. One year of experience performing 10‑print fingerprint comparisons or utilizing an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) is preferred; experience limited to Livescan systems does not meet the preferred qualification standard. Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Selection Procedure Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised preferred qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process. Supplemental Information All incumbents must obtain ACJIS Network Terminal Operator Certification within six months from appointment and must maintain these certifications. Positions require qualifying for and maintaining current membership in the International Association for Identification (IAI). Valid driver license required at time of application, valid Arizona driver license required at time of appointment. A 39‑month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review will be conducted. All positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation. Department of Labor regulation CFR Part 1910.1030 requires the category to have a high risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens. Hepatitis B vaccine provided. Physical/sensory work requirements: ability to examine line/shape detail, discern differences/similarities, perceive full color spectrum, work extended periods using magnifiers, and accurately focus photographic lenses.
