Fingerprint Technician As a Fingerprint Technician, you will be responsible for fingerprinting and photographing persons that have been charged with criminal offenses and are in custody at the El Paso County CJC (Criminal Justice Center) and POC (Police Operations Center). Police Fingerprint Technicians deal with a diverse clientele and must be able to remain calm and present a professional demeanor when confronted by aggressive, angry, or confrontational individuals. You will have direct contact with inmates during the fingerprint and Buccal DNA collection process. Essential Job Functions the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform: Process and register sex offenders at the POC Fingerprint and photograph adult and juvenile criminal suspects brought into the POC and CJC in accordance with FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) and CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) standards Collect Buccal DNA samples Fingerprint public applicants and new employees; accept and account for fees related to fingerprinting Perform computer checks utilizing local, state, and national computer systems Create, update, and maintain criminal and police database files Process reports received for inclusion into CSPD's (Colorado Springs Police Department) records management system Staff the NCIC/CCIC(National Crime Information Center/Colorado Crime Information Center) desk Provide advice, records, and information to citizens, outside law enforcement agencies, and other CSPD staff We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: Knowledge of: Basic police department procedures and protocol Modern office equipment including computers and supporting software Ability to: Take effective fingerprints and photographs of individuals Analyze fingerprint patterns; advise police staff as necessary Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing Establish and maintain effective working relationships This shift position is in the Records Section, which is a 24-hour operation. Typical shifts include days (6 a.m. to 2 p.m.), swings (2 p.m. to 10 p.m.), and midnights (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.). New hires will be assigned to the shift with the greatest operational need. Your shift may change annually when shift picks occur. You must be able to work varied hours and days including holidays and weekends. A high school diploma or GED One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, NCIC OSN (Operator System Number) certification One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience. Two years of full-time responsible experience in a criminal justice, corrections, or law enforcement setting Fingerprinting experience and/or training Experience working with CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System), NCIC, or CCIC Demonstrated ability to type 35 net words per minute Please contact CSPD Human Resources at cspdhiring@coloradosprings.gov for any questions about this position.
