Job Code: AZ 8922 Job Title: Education Program Specialist (Special Education / 1–5 Hours per Month) Client Job ID: AZ 8922 Location: Phoenix, Arizona (Local Only / Hybrid) Contract Duration: 12 Months Workload: 1–5 Hours per Month Schedule: Monday–Friday, between 7 AM – 5 PM (As Needed) Overview SOAZ-Req #8922 — Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) – Arizona State Hospital (ASH) is seeking a Program Strategist – Education Program Specialist to provide part‑time oversight and guidance for Special Education Services within the hospital. This position supports the Chief Compliance Officer and ensures compliance with state and federal special education regulations, including IDEA. This is a very low‑hours role (1–5 hours/month) ideal for a licensed Special Education professional seeking flexible additional work. Mandatory Requirement ✅ Active Teaching Certification in Special Education (Required) Job Responsibilities Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate special education service programs. Review patient records for individuals under 22 who have not graduated and determine special education eligibility. Conduct interviews, educational evaluations, and assessments based on patient needs. Develop individualized IEPs and curriculum aligned with IDEA guidelines. Implement customized educational programming for qualified patients. li>Set educational goals and objectives based on patient functioning levels. Document evaluations, goals, progress, and results in patient health records. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning. Support teaching staff and provide educational guidance. Maintain special education records per state/federal requirements and Nueva Vista School District standards. Complete required reporting for funding and special education service management. Be available as needed (1–5 hours monthly) for oversight, guidance, and documentation needs. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge Of: Special education development, learning processes, and disability‑based instructional needs. Behavioral theories for inpatient psychiatric settings. IDEA regulations, IEP development, and educational legal mandates. Administrative and management practices within mental health education environments. Skills In: Organizing, developing, implementing, and evaluating lesson plans and education programs. Educational assessment and documentation. Using AV equipment, instructional tools, and computer applications (including report writing & PowerPoint). Budget oversight and procurement processes. Abilities To: Plan and organize inpatient educational programs. Work effectively with diverse backgrounds and experience levels. Provide technical oversight to teachers and personnel. Communicate clearly—both verbally and in writing.
