Known for our expertise across litigation, tax planning, governmental law, and real estate development , we serve a diverse client base—from individuals and local businesses to public entities.

As Controller, you won’t just “keep the books”—you’ll lead the financial operations of a firm that’s deeply embedded in the fabric of Austin’s business and public sectors. What You’ll Do

Lead Financial Operations with Vision and Precision

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and legal industry-specific financial regulations

  • Lead the firm’s budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis efforts

Support the Bigger Picture

  • Prepare insightful reports and presentations for Members and the Finance Committee

  • Provide financial guidance to support strategic planning and firm growth initiatives

  • Collaborate with HR on compensation and benefits strategy, including attorney draws and partner contributions

Manage & Mentor a Talented Team

  • Supervise the Accounting Manager and two Accounting Clerks

  • Provide guidance on daily functions including billing, trust accounting, payroll, and reconciliations

  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and ongoing professional development

Ensure Compliance and Accountability

  • Handle attorney compensation and monthly partner draws

  • Manage firm and client entity tax obligations, including federal, multi-state, and use tax filings

  • Coordinate closely with external CPAs on complex returns and year-end reporting

  • Maintain insurance renewals, plan documents, and ensure benefit contribution accuracy

Keep It All Running Smoothly

  • Oversee trust accounts, PAC filings, and amortization schedules for client entities

  • Maintain sensitive financial records and compliance documents

  • Respond to ad hoc financial analysis requests and reporting needs

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s a plus)

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required

  • 8–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience

  • 4+ years of leadership experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment

  • Solid understanding of legal accounting practices and compliance

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving skills

  • Strong communicator who can distill complex financial data into clear business insights

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with legal practice management software is a plus

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • High-impact leadership role with real influence in firm strategy.

  • Collaborative, professional environment with room to grow.

  • Unique opportunity to lead finance in a respected full-service law firm.

  • Work closely with experienced attorneys and cross-functional teams.

  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

  • Located in the heart of Austin, Texas , a city known for its vibrant culture and strong business community.
