Job Description

A full-time opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter to support a 1st grade student in an elementary school setting. This position is based in Alabaster, AL, and involves working Monday through Friday for 6-7 hours each day during the school year. The role requires interpreting services to facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers, enhancing the educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate and professional sign language interpretation for a 1st grade student in classroom and school-related activities.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure communication access and student engagement.
• Assist the student in understanding instructional content and participating fully in classroom interactions.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
• Adapt interpreting methods to suit the student's needs and curriculum requirements.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience interpreting for young children.
• Familiarity with elementary education environments and understanding of 1st grade curriculum.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a school team.
• Previous experience in educational interpreting preferred.
